Here’s a surprise: A Realtor has come out in favor of the new requirement in Austin, Texas for a mandatory energy audit at the time of sale of a home. Krisstina Wise writes,
If it’s just a $300 cost to the seller and it gets filed away and nobody ever does anything with it, I’m opposed, because it’s just another cost. If we educate the public so that it’s meaningful – so that we are a greener society – and this energy audit is a way to start the chain to make our earth safer … I would like to be a part of that movement.
It’s not a position everyone will agree with, but it’s reasonable. I’d rather see voluntary adoption. But one way or another, we must change our national energy policy and security. And improving the efficiency of existing homes is a critical piece of the puzzle.
